I'm Daniel Berry, your at-large alderman. This is where I break down what the Board is doing — in plain language — so you can follow along, weigh in, and hold me to it.

Regular meetings are the second and fourth Mondays of each month (November and December, the second Monday only). Special-called meetings and study sessions are announced as needed, and every meeting is televised.
In plain language
The Board takes a first vote on who the Police Chief and City Recorder answer to (Ordinance No. 1697), a first vote on repealing the "equal funding" rule that ties Sports Council and South Jackson dollars to the Chamber's hotel tax cut (Ordinance No. 1698), and nine resolutions renewing the yearly nonprofit funding. After the meeting, the study session digs into impact fees, school-zone truck restrictions, and our hotel/motel tax.
Read the previewThe big items are $1.45 million of street paving for the coming year, a new $71,495 playground at Jefferson Street Park, and a first-reading ordinance that reshuffles who reports to whom at City Hall. The Board will also talk funding for the Sports Council, South Jackson and the Chamber in the study session.
Read the previewPedestrian and school-zone safety was the theme neighbors pressed. The Board approved this year's paving list and snowplows, hired outside planning help, and pushed the city org-chart ordinance to the next meeting so we get the language right.
